Queen of Soul

Happy Birthday Aretha Franklin!!!

Today is the birthday of the one and only Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin (also BPS founder birthday twin).  Let's face it the Queen has hits and they still knock. Here are some of our favorites (no particular order).

This song was written and recorded by another great artist Otis Redding (listen to his version) in 1965 and Auntie recorded in 1967.

Young, Gifted, and Black

Written by the legendary Nina Simone in memory of her friend Loraine Hansberry.  This song has been recorded by Donnie Hathaway but Aretha put her magic on it as well.

Bridge Over Troubled Water

Originally recorded by Simon and Garfunkel but Aretha blessed it with her arrangements.

(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Women

Written by another legend Carole King

A Rose Is Still A Rose

Written by Lauryn Hill specifically for Aretha

I Say A Little Prayer

Originally recorded by Whitney's Auntie Dionne Warwick

Rock Steady

If you want to get the party started this is a great song. Play it and dare people not to dance.

Written by the Queen herself featuring Donny Hathaway on them keys.

A Different World Theme Song

This show was iconic and her voice was apart of it.

I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me) featuring George Michael
